We are pleased to have helped one of Portland’s latest funding success stories, Giftango, identify and secure a new home for their growing operation. At the end of 2010, after coming off of a very successful round of series B round, Giftango decided it was time to make a move from the PSU Incubator (2828 SW Corbett). Their new offices needed to accommodate for future new hires and provide easy access to mass transit, the MAC and a few good pubs for “business meetings”.

After an extensive search throughout the Pearl District and Northwest Portland, Giftango landed in the Portland Design Center (735 SW 20th Place, by PGE Park). Taking down 5,290 RSF of the 31, 578 RSF building total, Giftango is now in a space with large, open workstations (that came with the space), a couple of private offices and a conference room. The suite has stained concrete floors and exposed beam ceilings, along with a nice window line that provides natural light.  There is a recreational area/breakroom which houses a kitchenette and ping pong table – the latter being something to help employees break up long hours on the computer.

The Portland Design Center is home to mostly creative services firms and technology groups. Tenants include Hinge Digital and Welocalize.

Small Society, the firm founded by James Keller, Heather Penner and Raven Zachary of Obama ’08 iphone app fame, moved into a two-level top floor office in October 2010. Since officially starting up as Small Society in February 2009, the company has seen tremendous growth and even expects to add a few more positions in 2011. Some of their clients include Whole Foods, ZipCar and Starbucks.

The new offices provide for additional hires while offering the aesthetic look and feel the employees prefer. High ceilings, skylights, exposed brick, multiple break rooms and a location close to MAX and lunch spots made this building a perfect match for Small Society (not to mention provided enough room for a large collection of raven art).

A year ago, Plas2Fuel (now officially Agilyx) officially began searching for a headquarters facility. The building needed to accommodate for R&D, administrative offices and a showroom warehouse that investors and buyers of the technology could visit and see first hand the process Agilyx developed to convert plastic to crude oil.  A few priority considerations included  a well ventilated warehouse to deal with the heat involved in the process as well as relatively easy highway access for incoming visitors to travel on to and from the airport.

A comprehensive search began with Agilyx looking at facilities in both Oregon and  southwest Washington. Identifying a facility that could provide modest office space and serious manufacturing floor (including heavy power, non-water based sprinklers and a crane) was particularly challenging.  Budget was another key consideration, as this young company was just starting to gain traction. Fortunately, market timing was in their favor as 2009 saw big drops in rent.

 Ultimately, we found the perfect solution at Wall Street Industrial Park (named after the small road it sits adjacent to) in Tigard, Oregon.  Agilyx leased 22,307 SF of space at 7904 SW Hunziker Street, of which roughly 3,000 SF is custom built office space on two floors.

The facility has front and back roll-up doors for loading and a turnaround for articulated trucks to pick up and transport the crude oil collected into the roughly 12,500 gallon exterior tank. There is also fenced yard area for storage and truck loading.  The office space contains a training room, break room, conference room, kitchen, showers, multiple private offices and an open work space.
